As early as the 1990s and before the green building revolution, we began canvassing the backroads of Montana in search of old barns needing new life. In these structures left over from a different era, we saw what others weren’t seeing at the time: an opportunity to recycle materials and remnants from the past that would otherwise be lost. So, making sure to respectfully cooperate with landowners, we carefully dismantled barns and other structures, then sold the lumber out of a garage.

Over time, Montana Reclaimed Lumber Co expanded to a 35-acre yard with multiple mills, kilns, and skilled employees to help create the largest collection of antique lumber available. While we no longer dismantle the barns, we continue to hand-select reclaimed lumber from across the globe.

The main yard, nestled in the southern reaches of the storied Gallatin Valley, supplies custom lumber packages for flooring, siding, timber, paneling, and trim projects. Six miles down the valley, our north yard is designed to serve the public with a selection of lumber sold by the board or bundle, fireplace mantels, timbers, factory seconds and overruns, premilled accent walls, and more. 

In the heart of the Midwest, we have a sourcing and staging facility to help with our procurement of regional products.

At Montana Reclaimed Lumber Co. we purchase quality antique lumber from across the country and beyond. We prefer that your historical treasure is given a second chance to side a home, clad a wall, or provide a unique focal point for a commercial space. Please keep in mind that we usually purchase in large volumes, such as 10,000 board feet or similar.

  • MRL works with local, experienced salvage teams to provide a wide range of reclaimed wood products. From West Coast old growth fir, to Mid-Atlantic hardwoods, to Europe and beyond, MRL finds and sources all your needs. Decades long relationships with our partners allow us the first choice of sought-after antique wood materials, giving our clients access to the highest quality selection of one-of-a-kind lumber in the world.

  • Finding the “raw” stock is only the beginning for MRL. After being sourced, materials make their way to MRL headquarters in southwest Montana.  Here at our purpose-built facility, we sort, wash, prep, and mill materials for use in multiple  applications. Our team has a keen, discerning eye, paying close attention to color tones and textures, curating lumber packages that help bring your design intent to life.

  • MRL partners with the best architects, builders, designers, artisans, and craftspeople across the country, who use our lumber to create everything from legacy estates and rustic cabins, to mantels and accent walls.
